Apply the Supply!
The Blood of Jesus moves you from darkness into light! The provision of His substitution authorizes your redemption. You can be saved from sin. You can be rescued from death. You can be forgiven – totally!
However, the Blood supply doesn’t end with the initial application. You can apply the supply to every aspect of your destiny! The Blood continues spiritual operation throughout your life as a child of God, a citizen of the commonwealth of heaven, and the fulfillment of your purpose. You might be shocked that there is “controversy,” however, even about pleading the Blood!
One evangelical leader, working to get us all properly biblicalized (by his definition) says:
“There are some Charismatic’s and Pentecostal’s that practice ‘pleading the blood’ over things they want cleansed or delivered. Just about anything gets the blood pleaded over it. But this is an unbiblical practice [sic], nowhere do we read of the apostles ‘pleading the Blood.’”
Amazing! Anyway, here’s an excellent example of an apostle “pleading the Blood”:
“All the broken and dislocated pieces of the universe – people and things, animals and atoms – get properly fixed and fit together in vibrant harmonies, all because of his death, His blood that poured down from the Cross.” The Message, Colossians 1:20
Here’s another voice of controversy about pleading the Blood:
“’Pleading the blood of Jesus’ has no basis whatsoever in Scripture. No one in the Bible ever ‘pleads the blood’ of Christ. Those who ‘plead the blood’ do so as if there was something magical in those words or as if by using them their prayer is somehow more powerful. This teaching is born from the misguided and heretical view of prayer that prayer is really nothing more than a way of manipulating God to get what we want rather than praying for His will to be done.”
Really? Something magical about pleading the Blood of Covenant? A “misguided and heretical view of prayer?” Pleading the Blood is a way of manipulating God? Does he mean God can be manipulated? Does He mean that applying the supply is an effort of witchcraft? Does He mean that the covenant the Blood signs, seals, and delivers is something other than “what God wills” when He is the One who wrote and inaugurated the Covenant with His own Blood and bound Himself to Himself in a vow to obey what He had established?!
Pleading the Blood is applying the supply, and we are authorized to apply the supply to all the broken pieces of the universe so they get restored and reset into their original purposes. Pleading isn’t begging. Pleading is a legal function of stipulating with authority that what is covenant promised is covenant applied!
And, “Since the children are made of flesh and blood, it’s consistent that the Rescuer embraced flesh and blood in order to rescue them by his death. By taking death into himself, he destroyed the Devil’s hold on death.” Hebrews 2:14
The Blood of Jesus breaks the power of the ultimate power of the devil—death—not just at the end of our lives, but every day we live! We apply the supply of life to a world dominated by death and the fear of death.
“And so, dear brothers and sisters, we can boldly enter heaven’s Most Holy Place because of the blood of Jesus.”
Every time we enter into His presence, we do so by applying the supply! The point is not that we no longer offer repeated animal sacrifice; the point is that His Blood is ever available because by one offering His Blood is an eternal supply. But, we must apply the supply!
Passover
The original Passover required an application of the blood of the lamb. [See Exodus 12] To get the power of the blood to function as a demarcation of life overcoming death, the blood was applied to the doorposts of the house where they would eat the Passover. In the same way the Passover prophesies the Lamb of God, Jesus, whose Blood would forever, once and for all, provide escape from bondage and foreign ownership, the Blood applied to every aspect of our lives!
There is more to being saved than having your sins forgiven. There is more to salvation than being born again. There is more to the power of the Blood than redemptive cover up. The Blood remits and cleanses. The Blood restores!
Foreigners could not eat the meal, nor experience the power of the applied Blood without being circumcised and entering into the covenant God made with His people. Once the blood is available, the Blood must be applied. In other words, the Blood does nothing for you until you enter into the covenant of the Blood. Then, having been translated from the kingdom of darkness to the kingdom of Light, you have access to all the Blood provides. Within the covenant, you must apply the supply! It is not mechanical. It is relational. It is not automatic. It is applicable. The people eligible to eat the meal still needed to apply the supply on the doorposts. Applying the supply is pleading the Blood! The Blood of Jesus is Covenant Blood.
Right now, a revival of the Blood of Jesus is happening! “It is only by the Blood.”
Memorialized
The Blood covenant was inaugurated and instituted, established and enforced, by the Blood of the Lamb. Passover was memorialized in Jewish culture to keep the reality of the Blood Covenant before the people of the covenant.
Jesus memorialized His Blood Covenant in a similar, but unique fashion. The point of receiving the broken bread and poured-out wine is to “bring into remembrance.” This is not a ritual or magic show trick. The remembrance is for us, not Him! We need to be reminded that the Blood of the Covenant authorizes us to receive the benefits of the Covenant! In the same way, the cross is a memorial to a covenant. In the covenant, God has pronounced blessings upon us. God saves us because of covenant and He continues to bless us because of the covenant.
Testimony from FirstDay
Preaching on the Blood Sunday morning, we experienced a powerful move of God among us! One testimony to share that I personally witnessed as it was happening—I saw this boy’s thumb bent and broken, swollen, and observed his pain and mild shock. He was white and ready to be sick to his stomach. Tough kid though! He wanted prayer. I remember saying, “Pray! I want to see that thumb straight and the swelling go down!”
I knew God intended to honor the prayers we had just prayed about applying the supply!
His mother, Sabrina tells the story: “Want to share what all happened with my son’s thumb. Firebrand’s leaders told me Christian broke his thumb. I knew immediately we had to go in the worship center and take communion for his healing. As we waited, his finger was swollen and crooked. He was in severe pain and told me he thought he was going to throw up. He explained to me that he felt it pop when he first injured it and that it felt as if the bone was pushing to the side inside. We took communion and went up for prayer. I took the ice off and noticed that the swelling had gone down since people had been praying for him. He noticed it as well.
We continued to pray and Christian said he thought he was going to throw up. We went into the other room and sat on the floor; Pat continued praying. Then, Christian tells me that the pain has gone and that his thumb felt completely numb inside and out. He wanted to go back and continue to get prayer as he knew he was being healed. He went from extreme pain and wanting to throw up, to no pain anywhere and ready for more prayer!
We later went to the van and waited on Ted, and Christian said his finger “felt weird,” and that it felt like his bones were moving inside. I looked over at this thumb and though still swollen did not look as disfigured as before. We decided to go ahead and get it x-rayed to see what was going on. When the Doctor came in, she said, “Well, there isn’t a fracture or anything, and my guess is he must have sprained it or jammed it.” Christian and I looked at each other and laughed as we both knew what had happened.
I wrapped his thumb up for school to avoid kids hitting his thumb on purpose…in doing so they noticed it and wanted to know what had happened. Christian shared with everyone that he broke it and God healed it. The kids were like ‘wow.’ I believe we are on the brink of an incredibly, powerful move of God, and He is giving us a taste of what is yet to come to Freedom House.”
There were many other testimonies, but I liked that one. This young man’s faith was in the power of the Blood and prayer! God said we would be able to see the healing happen. And, we did! Pleading the Blood is applying the supply, and we are authorized to apply the supply. We are not foreigners to the promises! We are people of the Blood Covenant!
