Kingdom Therapy for Personal Wholeness

Healing and Wholeness

We know that breaches of wholeness constantly and consistently challenge us. These are part of the experience of living in a world without wholeness. The word “shalom” is an excellent way of expressing wholeness, and the meaning of wholeness is akin to “created to be this way.” And the meaning of holy is related to “created to be and live this way, to fulfill a specific purpose.”

When we speak of healing, we speak of both the manifestation of spiritual power and authority over all natural conditions, but the process by which this kind of wholeness comes.

Therapeuo – [θεραπεύωa] a keyword for the process through which healing or wholeness is experienced.

This process can, and often does, include the use of natural, human agency, or physical medical assistance.

When used to speak of the ministry of Jesus, it is a process that includes something other than natural, human agency, or medical theory and practice.

That is, Jesus had a unique process for producing wholeness of the whole man.

Iomai [ἰάομαι], means “heal, to make whole.” It lacks process and describes the result of miraculous power and authority that creates a new condition.

Spiritual Healing and Wholeness

James 5 says, “Is anyone among you sick? He should call for the elders to pray for him.”

This word means “weak” and is condition about which we cannot divide a person into body, soul, and spirit. That is, the weakness manifests in the form of infirmity or limitation that affects the entire person.

Is anyone inadequate in some areas of his life? What to do? How to respond? If he suffers, he should pray. If he is happy, he should praise. If he is weak, he should submit the weakness to elders.

Of course, this certainly means physical conditions, but that is usually a manifestation of a soulish condition. If the soul lacks the strength of will, elders provide strength in three ways:

  • The prayer of faith shall save the one who is near collapse.
  • The prayer of faith shall raise him up to the Lord.
  • The prayer of faith shall forgive the sins he has committed.

The healthy lifestyle of a believer comes as a result of enduring a process that strengths the will. Hebrews 12:12 and the verses that follow describe the charge of the Bible for spiritual fathers and elders, the role of kingdom leaders in partnering with and representing the Father in this process.

It is for discipline that you have to endure. God is treating you as sons. For what son is there whom his father does not discipline? If you are left without discipline, in which all have participated, then you are illegitimate children and not sons.

Besides this, we have had earthly fathers who disciplined us, and we respected them. Shall we not much more be subject to the Father of spirits and live? For they disciplined us for a short time as it seemed best to them, but He disciplines us for our good, that we may share His holiness.

For the moment, all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields the wholeness of righteous lifestyle to those who have been trained by it.

Therefore, lift your drooping hands and strengthen your weak knees, and make straight paths for your feet, so that what is lame may not wander, but be healed instead.

Strive for wholeness available to and from everyone and the holiness without which no one will see the Lord [involved in the process].9

See to it that no one fails to obtain the grace of God; that no “root of bitterness” springs up and causes trouble, and by it many become defiled; that no one is sexually immoral or unholy like Esau, who sold his birthright for a single meal. For you know that afterward, when he desired to inherit the blessing, he was rejected, for Esau found no chance to repent, though he sought it with tears.

James continues in this same vein. James 5 – “Confess sins to one another – in this context – and pray for one another – in this context – forgiveness and the prayer of faith results in ἰάομαι.

Authority and Submission

To understand submission is to understand the process of therapy that leads to wholeness, spirit, soul, and body in a world that constantly and consistently challenges this condition.

All the authority and power come from God through His representatives. These Scriptures all reveal God’s immediate involvement in processes that include His representatives.

God is involved. God’s representatives are involved.

All authority anticipates submission to God and His processes, and all God’s processes include God’s representatives.

Without authority, the process has no power. Without submission, the authority becomes unavailable.

Sometimes, God just does stuff to jumpstart a dysfunctional person into function. Most of the time, God brings us into a process to strengthen us.

He wants us to mature into overcomers. He wants us to represent Him as qualified, authentic inheritors. He wants us to respond to the constant, consistent challenges to our wholeness with overcoming authority and power.

Let’s ask ourselves a very important question.

“Can I hinder my own process of healing and wholeness even though God is willing, has authority and power over all challenges to that wholeness, and makes this wholeness available to me?”

Let’s ask another question of ourselves.

“Can my limitations on submission to God’s process – including Him and His representatives – limit the healing and wholeness available?”

Let’s ask a further question of ourselves.

“Does my submission to other spiritual authorities and powers play a part in receiving what must only come from Father through Jesus in the process of Divine therapy?”

Our answers to these questions should lead us to believe that the strength of will to submit to the process measures how our faith or trust appropriates what is available for our bodies, souls, and spirits to be experience wholeness in a world in which that wholeness is continuously and consistently challenged.
